Gabriel Herrera takes command of civil engineering squadron

Maj. Gabriel J. Herrera, assumed command of the Wyoming Air National Guard's 153rd Civil Engineering Squadron during a ceremony June 11, in Cheyenne.

Herrera started his career as an enlisted member of civil engineering in 1997 as an engineering assistant in drafting and surveying. Herrera received his commission in 2004.

“Growing up in civil engineering and going from enlisted to command is a pretty big deal to me,” said Herrera. “I am excited about the opportunity.”

Chief Master Sgt. Erik Smith, 153rd Civil Engineering Squadron superintendent, also spoke about Herrera’s experience as an enlisted member.

“He understands the enlisted structure and listens to his noncommissioned officers and values their opinions.”

Herrera took command from Lt. Col. Bret Trippel.
