The Wyoming Air National Guard's mission to Israel to assist with fire fighting efforts has been cancelled.

"Although we ended up not deploying, I'm pleased with the speed and professionalism of our folks - some of whom had just returned from Afghanistan - to respond to the mission," said Col. Dennis Grunstad, 153rd Airlift Wing commander. "Our commitment to deploy swiftly has not been diminished. We remain ready to assist our state, nation and other countries as needed when called upon."

The wing received orders to deploy late Saturday afternoon. Crews were told to report and prepare to deploy for 10 days Sunday morning. The mission was cancelled by the Department of Defense prior to the crews leaving Cheyenne.
