Close to 400 Wyo. National Guard personnel in Fremont County Published July 1, 2010 Wyoming Military Department CHEYENNE, Wyo. -- An additional 153 Wyoming National Guard Soldiers and Airmen are converging on Fremont County today, to augment forces that have been sandbagging, repairing levees, assisting with evacuations and providing security since activated June 7. This is the largest state activation of the Wyoming National Guard in more than 10 years, 393 Soldiers and Airmen will be in the Lander and Riverton areas by tonight. Fremont County requested the military personnel through the Wyoming Office of Homeland Security. Gov. Dave Freudenthal has signed multiple authorizations to increase the number of Soldiers and Airmen since last Monday's original authorization of 40 National Guard personnel to help mitigate damage caused by record flooding in the county.
