153rd Medical Group Physician Assistant wins National Guard Bureau award

Capt. Kevin R. Schrank, of the Wyoming Air National Guard's 153rd Medical Group, was selected as the Air National Guard recipient for the 2008 Air National Guard Annual Medical Awards. 

Schrank, a physician assistant in Austin, Texas, was recognized for the Air National Guard Outstanding Physician Assistant of the Year. The award recognizes and rewards outstanding performance of duty, program management and innovations and significant contribution to the Air Force expeditionary medical operations programs. The competition recognizes the professional individuals in the Air National Guard leading the way in meeting and exceeding superior standards. 

Schrank recently completed a deployment to Guatemala as the only physician assistant to join 40 other members of the 153rd Medical Group.
Schrank volunteered for the U.S. Southern Command's Medical Readiness training exercise for the 12th Air Force, Air Force Southern Command. The general medicine MEDRETE in the Jalapa region of Guatemala was a huge success, and helped build nation-to-nation relations between the United States and Guatemala. Schrank helped to provide outstanding medical care to
6,361 citizens of Guatemala who needed treatment.

Schrank will next compete at the Air Force level.
